How to copy text from a picture?

1. Upload a picture

Drop in a screenshot, photo, scan, or PDF page. The text is recognized in seconds — right where it sits in the image.

2. Select and copy

Drag across the picture like you would on a web page, or long-press on your phone. Click a line for a copy menu, or grab everything with “Copy all text” — line breaks kept.

3. Or edit it in place

Click a line and choose Edit to open the image text editor — rewrite the words inside the picture itself, with matching font and background.

Real selection, right on the image

AI lays an invisible text layer exactly over every word it finds, so the picture behaves like a web page: drag, long-press, copy — no retyping, no switching apps.

From copying to editing

The same recognition powers our image text editor. One click carries your picture over, and you can rewrite any line in place instead of just extracting it.

Privacy First

Our servers retain images for 30 days for logged-in users and 1 day for non-logged-in users; overdue items are permanently deleted.

FAQ

How do I copy text from an image?

Upload the image and wait a moment for recognition. Then drag across the words right on the picture — exactly like selecting text on a web page — and copy. You can also click any line for a copy menu, or use “Copy all text” to grab everything with line breaks kept.

Why can I select text on a picture?

After OCR finds every word and its position, the tool overlays an invisible, real text layer at those exact spots. Your selection lands on that layer, so the image feels like a normal web page while the picture itself stays untouched.

Can I copy text from a picture on my phone?

Yes. Long-press the text in the image and drag the selection handles, just like selecting text anywhere else on your phone, then tap Copy. The “Copy all text” button works on mobile too.

Can I edit the text instead of copying it?

Yes — that is what sets this tool apart. Click a line and choose Edit, and the picture opens in the image text editor with every word already recognized. Change the wording right inside the image, with font and background matched.

Which formats and languages are supported?

JPG, PNG, JPEG, WEBP, BMP and PDF pages. Recognition covers major languages including English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian, Thai and Hindi.
